Asphalt plant filter bags are exposed to elevated temperatures, thermal cycling, moisture, abrasive mineral dust, bitumen and oil fumes, as well as potentially corrosive gases.

Depending on the operating conditions, the filter media can be supplied with oil- and water-repellent surface treatment to improve resistance to moisture and oily or bituminous dust.

During commissioning, initial filter bag precoating may also be considered to protect the filter media and support the formation of an initial dust cake before normal operation.
